Glossary of Terms
This glossary defines words used by members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that might not be familiar to those who are not members.
Tabernacle
Any of a number of larger buildings used for assemblies, but most commonly a reference to the Salt Lake Tabernacle, located on Temple Square in Salt Lake City and home of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
Temple
A holy sanctuary built for the purpose of performing sacred ceremonies such as marriages for eternity. Temples, of which there are more than 120 throughout the world, should not be confused with chapels or meetinghouses used for Sunday worship.
Testimony
A set of personal beliefs about the truthfulness of the gospel and its principles. Also, an expression, or “bearing,” of such beliefs.
Tithing
The voluntary donation of one-tenth of one’s income to the Church.
