Glossary of Terms
This glossary defines words used by members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that might not be familiar to those who are not members.
Relief Society
An organization of the Church for women ages 18 and over whose purpose is to provide support for the temporal and spiritual needs of all women in the Church, as well as others who are in need. The Relief Society of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is one of the largest women’s organizations in the world.
Restoration
The re-establishment of the ancient church and gospel of Jesus Christ in the latter days as revealed by God through Joseph Smith and the prophets who have succeeded him as president of the Church. The term “restored gospel” is used to refer to emphasize its restoration from New Testament times.
Resurrection
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints believes in the literal resurrection of Jesus Christ following His death on the cross. It also believes all men and women will be resurrected to immortality as part of the gift of the Atonement.
Revelation
The making known of divine truth by communication from God in various ways. Faithful individuals may receive revelations regarding their personal affairs and regarding their Church assignments, such as the revelation a bishop receives for his congregation. Revelation for the entire Church comes only from the president (prophet).
