FamilySearch Web Site
- The Church’s family history Web site at www.familysearch.org is linked to the world’s largest repository of genealogical resources and a global network of research centers.
- Although a billion names can already be accessed online free of charge, most of the vast collection of genealogical resources is yet to come online. The Church is undertaking a massive digitization project to bring most of the additional collection of the Family History Library online over the next few years.
- Currently, major databases available at the Church site include the 1880 U.S. census, the 1881 England and Canadian censuses, and the International Genealogical Index with its 600 million names.
- The online Library Catalog allows any user to see what microfilm and other holdings are at the library, and then order the films to be sent to one of the 4,500 family history centers nearest their home for viewing.
- With vital records from over 110 countries and territories, FamilySearch.org is one of the top Internet sites for genealogical research.
